Review: Gypsy Legacy: The Duke by Denise Patrick
Felicia Collings, visiting with her great-grandmother, is surprised when she gives Felicia a ring, and tells her that she must wear it at all times, either on a chain around her neck, or on her finger, until a man will recognize the ring, and tell her the history behind the ring. The man who knows the history of the ring will be Felicia’s husband, the love of her heart, and that her eyes will know him when she sees him. Felicia loves her grandmother, and wears the ring around her neck until she can wear it on her finger.
Three years have passed, and Felicia has never met anyone who knew the ring’s history, or to whom it had once belonged. In a some way the story of the ring had been helpful to Felicia because she was able to turn down proposals from men who were only wanting her for her dowry, not due to love of Felicia for herself.
Brand has finally returned home, this time for keeps, he hopes. He docked his ship, The Gypsy Star, in London’s harbor, turned the captaincy over to his First Mate, and headed out for his shipping offices. Brand knows that his public return, as he assumes his rightful title, will be a difficult period for him, and for his father. Brand and his younger brother were kidnapped as children, and shipped off to become slaves. Brand’s younger brother had died due to the harshness of their captivity, but Brand had managed to survive, and even to prosper once he had escaped his captivity. Brand has worked to remember the truth of his childhood, and the kidnapping. He is determined to bring the guilty party to justice for the kidnapping and abuse he and his brother experienced. Brand strongly suspects that his power hungry stepmother was the instigator of his kidnapping because she had borne one child, a son, who would become the Duke if Brand and his brother were to die. In the midst of his meeting, his partner’s sister Felicia barges in, and Brand is stunned by his immediate attraction to her. Felicia is shocked by how handsome Brand is, and her eyes keep being drawn to Brand. An emergency cross-country trip with Brand causes Felicia to be compromised, and Brand makes an offer of marriage to Felicia.
Felicia has secrets that she has never told anyone, and those secrets have caused her to never marry. Will Brand be able to gain her trust so that she will tell him why she is so fearful ?
This story has such an evil antagonist that the most tenderhearted reader will root for their demise.
This is a fascinating story, rich with the history of the period, full of adventure, kidnapping, true love, and a mystery that will keep the reader glued to the pages as the story unfolds. This is the perfect curl up on the sofa, or your favorite chair, and read by the fire or sun by the pool book It is a Keeper!
