Unspoken Promises by Bonnie Hamre

Molly Andersen lost her baby and her husband in a drunken crash. Still grieving two months later, she is traveling from Idaho to
California, prepared to start her life over. Stopping at a rest area in the middle of nowhere, she begins to have funny sensations come over her; wind like she hasn’t felt before is tearing at her clothes, spinning her around, and dropping her away from her car. When she comes to she is in the middle of the desert away from everything familiar. Ford Hunter is the first person to find her; a handsome, giant of a man with strange apparel and a far-fetched idea that he is on a wagon train in 1847, traveling to
California of all places. Well, Molly isn’t about to believe anything like the tale he tells, and he isn’t about to believe a crazy woman dressed scandalously and carrying strange items in her bag. Though both are wary of the other, there is a strong attraction between them that culminates in their being caught in a compromising situation. To satisfy the Puritan beliefs of the wagon train members, they are forced to marry. Despite the differences in beliefs and time periods, Molly is given a second chance at motherhood with Ford’s children, but what happens when is transported back to her own time?
Unspoken Promises is an emotional and thought provoking story of two wounded souls finding love and solace with each other. Ford and Molly are both admirable characters; strong in their convictions, loyal to a fault, dedicated to family, generous and loving. The chemistry between them is unmistakable; evident from the moment Ford finds Molly as the stream. The love scenes are emotional and passionate, with Ford and Molly both working toward overcoming their grief and heartache. The storyline is fresh, with plenty of twists and turns to keep this reader turning pages to finish in one sitting. The grief of both protagonists is palpable, causing a few tears for this reader. The secondary cast of characters is a well balanced bunch that enhances the story, adding depth and drama to this vividly described trek through the past. Bonnie Hamre has penned an outstanding story that will live long in this reader’s memory.
